WU NEWS : RZA DONATES TO HIP-HOP CHESS FEDERATION TO BENEFIT THE YOUTH OF ST. LOUIS!

WU NEWS

“RZA DONATES TO HIP-HOP CHESS FEDERATION TO BENEFIT THE YOUTH OF ST. LOUIS!”

wu news

Welcome back to your dose of #WuNews with Wu Music Group!

As of November 1st, we got wind of some exciting news that we are hyped to share with the Wu world!

It seems as though Wu-Tang Clan’s very own RZA has taken matters into his own hands to influence the youth of St. Louis! He will inspire him in the best way he knows how… through music and the discipline of Chess as a game and a example of life. He donated to the Hip-Hop Chess Federation to remind kids in poverty or juvenile situations that there are better ways to spend your time. There are ways to change your life, and learn the fundamentals to successfully evolve your soul.

We feel this is going to open the door for many rappers, producers and over all creators to take a stand and responsibility for the coming generation. They watch us and duplicate, lets make sure its worth while.

RZA remembers how difficult it was for people he knew personally in those hostile situations. He states,  “It’s a game of chess in one sense, but in another it’s a study of life. We in the Hip-Hop Chess Federation are striving to bring awareness to American’s, to Black youth, but to the whole of American youth… That chess study, along with martial arts, along with music- is the best way to help develop your mind and body and protect you from pitfalls in life that will surely come at you.”

This is the time now or never to build a foundation that will be strong enough to endure many lifetimes!

We salute our brother RZA for his continuous efforts into communities everywhere. We encourage you all to start making changes as well, if not with the world… with yourself.

“RZA DONATES TO HIP-HOP CHESS FEDERATION TO BENEFIT THE YOUTH OF ST. LOUIS!”

Rza

Nov. 1st 2015, St. Louis, MO- The Hip-Hop Chess Federation (HHCF) is proud to announce it has begun training St. Louis juvenile hall staff it’s “Chess and Life Strategies” certification program.

The HHCF St. Louis initiative was made possible by a donation from board member RZA of Wu-Tang Clan to help HHCF establish itself in the city of St. Louis. October 9, 2014 Adisa and RZA spoke to more than 400 high school youth from Ferguson and across St. Louis. Later that same day Adisa and RZA gave a short lecture and played chess with incarcerated youth at the juvenile hall. RZA, who serves on the board for HHCF was moved by what he saw in the hearts and minds St. Louis youth. “That night RZA handed me a check and asked me to put together a program to help the youth of St. Louis.” stated Adisa Banjoko. I promised him I would make it happen.

During the October meeting with the incarcerate group of boys and girls about using chess as a tool to control their energy, Wu-Tang rapper said, “Y’all are in here for not controlling your energy, yo. You are here now] for not being analytical about the results of the actions you have taken. I’m the last one to talk in some sense. I’ve been through the same system…Me and my brother got our first gun, when I was 11 or 12…Riding NY city busses looking for what they call, a ’vic’ [victim].” He went onto explain how he taught himself through reading and playing chess to help him make better choices over time. RZA explained how the trauma of watching many relatives and friends die or become incarcerated, led him away from being trapped in the streets. “It’s a game of chess in one sense, but in another it’s a study of life. We in the Hip-Hop Chess Federation are striving to bring awareness to American’s, to Black youth, but to the whole of American youth… That chess study, along with martial arts, along with music- is the best way to help develop your mind and body and protect you from pitfalls in life that will surely come at you.” The full audio of RZA’s conversation with the incarcerated youth of St. Louis is up at www.bishopchronicles.com .

TJ Jones a staff member at St. Louis Juvenile Hall Family Court wrote a letter to HHCF a few weeks after thier visit stating, “You gave a memorable and powerful presentation to our youth and showed your dedication and motivation to do the unthinkable, connect chess with Hip-Hop…They were so amazed they began to ask when you were coming back again to have a chess tournament.” TJ and Adisa talked over the course of the next year looking at the most effective ways to get St. Louis juvenile hall staff trained in HHCF methodologies and philosophies. “Thanks to vision and trust of RZA in our our mission, we are currently training their staff in our innovative approach to teaching teens about life though chess. In five weeks, they will be complete in their HHCF Level 1 Certification.

So many kids there already love chess, I cannot wait to see the students when we visit again.”
St. Louis based schools and organizations looking to have their staff trained in HHCF Chess and Life Strategies program can email contact@hiphopchessfederation.org and apply. They can also call Bay Area HHCF HQ 888-588-4418.

MUSIC MONDAYS : DON MONIQUE

MUSIC MONDAYS

W/ “DON MONIQUE!”

donmonique-press-black-and-white-2015-billboard-650

Welcome to an all new #MusicMondays with Wu Music Group!

As you know by now, our Mondays have come to honor rising talent in the music industry! We see so much potential in the coming generation when it gets down to the music, and we fully support each and every featured artist. Whether it be artists, composers, producers, musicans, or musical creators of any kind, we keep an open mind and remember that talent is something than can come from anywhere.

Today we are featuring NYC native, “Don Monique!”

In her young 20 years of life, music has always been something she wanted to pursue. Moving around town with her mom who didn’t quite see the seriousness behind her passion opted for a little resistance.

That didn’t stop Monique, she knew she would soon be able to call it a career of her own.

Influenced by a sexy, trap style Monique incorporates her NY roots with her distinct verbal skills. It wasn’t until her 20th birthday that she released her very first track “Pilates!” It got major media attention for the headline grabbing hook, “Got Kendall, Got Kylie, Got Miley.” This is slickly referring to the trap lifestyle of drugs and hood dreams, making it a go to track for todays youth who enjoy a rugged approach.

It wasn’t until she released the track “You Aint Heard” and “Tha Low” where we knew Don Monique was a force to be reckoned with. The video follows along with Monique carrying a vintage Poetic Justice look rapping over a flip phone! It brings us back to the 90s era of Biggie Smalls, Lil Kim, and Wu-Tang Clan! Where music was nitty gritty, vulgar, and a visual of dark times with a don outlook. Hence the name DON MONIQUE.

She describes her sound as a cute, sexy, thirst trap.. which becomes apparent upon listening to her material. Her EP Thirst Trap released recently around July 2015 with already over hundreds of thousands of view on Youtube!

We feel that she is about to make major waves in the hip-hop community and are hyped to watch the journey to success take place. She is currently working on new material to release in hopes of capturing the attention of some big names to work with! Well guess what Monique, you got our attention and are official 100% #WuApproved!

GRAVEDIGGAZ – 1800 SUICIDE

wu wednesday

Welcome back to an all new #WuWednesday with Wu Music Group!

Today we are taking it back in honor of the new, exclusive Boombotix speaker released with an unreleased track from our brother Ol’ Dirty Bastard! The track is produced by the RZA and now available at Zumiez!

The #WuWednesday track we chose for you is from Wu affiliates “Gravediggaz!”

“1800 Suicide” describes itself with intense verses and philosophy released in 1994 from their 6 Feet Deep album. With the chorus stating,  “Suicide it’s a suicide. Biddy Bye Bye. Suicide it’s a suicide” one thing is clear, that when going against one of the Gravediggaz lyrically, you are literally digging your own grave!

This is the perfect song to continue the rest of the week strong until Halloween on Saturday!

Enjoy our #WuWednesday music choice!

MUSIC MONDAYS : ALLEN STONE

MUSIC MONDAYS

W/ “ALLEN STONE!”

Allen Stone

Welcome back to an all new #MusicMondays with Wu Music Group!

Our Mondays have become specifically about new music, artists, and creators who have sparked something special within us to share with the future generation. We feel the success and journey of these featured artists are just beginning, and we will be cheering every step of the way. These musical innovators are changing the outlook on how music gets defined and how it is supposed to make you feel. We never discriminate again different styles or genres and feel that true talent can come from the most unexpected places.

Today we are featuring the soulful sounds of “Allen Stone!”

Originally born on March 13th, 1987 in Chewelah, Washington Stone’s musical passion knew no limits. He was engulfed into the soul feeling that a powerful melody can create since the young age of 3 years old. He lead his choir in his fathers church, surprising everyone around him with the depth that came from his voice!

Everyone knew that he was an old soul meant to share his gift with the rest of the world.

We can relate his style of delivery to his inspirations of the 60s and 70s, via Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Jim Morrison and more! He makes music with substance and emotion, which is what our music industry needs a lot of lately due to the current vapid circulation.

It wasn’t until close childhood friend and also soul/R&B singer Stacie Orrico became instantly famous from her single “Stuck on You” that Stone started to envision his own path to musical success. He felt that if she was able to do what she loves and make a living at it, so can he… and it sure helped that his voice is one of kind. After taking some time to fully focus on music, he recorded and self released his debut LP Last to Speak in 2010 and followed with a self-titled album, Allen Stone in 2011!

Both received massive praise from Billboard Heatseekers and R&B/Hip Hop Album charts at #9, and made it all the way to the number 2 spot on the R&B/Soul charts on iTunes! His talent knows nothing of color or a particular style, just a tone that hits your soul in the way it should. The way real music should.

Featured on MTV and VH1 for upcoming artists in 2013, it seems that Allen is slowly but surely making waves everywhere! Around a year later Capitol Records snagged Stone and released his newest album in 2015 titled Radius! His views have already hit over 4 million in a few days, and the album is a new, refreshing twist to a classic voice. We can’t wait to see whats in store for his journey to musical prominence.

We can only expect great things from Stone, and can say with certainty that he is 100% #WuApproved!

THROWBACK THURSDAY : MARIAH CAREY FT. ODB – FANTASY REMIX

THROWBACK THURSDAY

MARIAH CAREY FT. ODB – FANTASY REMIX

throwback thursday

Welcome to an all new #ThrowbackThursday with Wu Music Group!

Today we are featuring one of our favorite Wu-Tang/R&B collaborations.

There is word around town that R&B is dying out, but we beg to differ. We see a lot of potential in the coming generation of singer/songwriters, and collaborations have always been a favorite additive. To gain perspective on where it came from and where its going we are giving you a throwback to a time in the early 2000’s that is hard to forget.

This particular choice takes us back to a time/memory when great R&B mixed well with hip-hop. Who better to represent that then the 5 octave woman herself Mariah Carey and our Wu-Tang Clan brother ODB (RIP)! Both created styles and identities all their own which exuded in the music they created, especially together.

We present to you, the “Fantasy” remix from ODB!

They released it to massive amounts of success, and the song  eventually made it on to both Mariah and ODB’s albums. It gives a good reputation and transition to collaborations between the genres everywhere. Check it out and enjoy the rest of your #ThrowbackThursday!

Let us know your thoughts.
